I hate commercials. I know most people do. But here is the problem. Every streaming service now has an ad supported tier. And the companies keep raising prices on the ad free tiers.
I have subscribed to every ad free plan on the market. Netflix Premium. Hulu No Ads. Disney Plus Premium. Max Ad Free. Apple TV Plus. I have tracked the price increases, the hidden limitations, and the services that quietly added ads back into their ad free plans.
This guide tells you which ad free streaming services are actually worth the money and which ones you should avoid.
Part of our guide to best streaming services in 2026
The Short Answer
If you want the cheapest true ad free service, get Apple TV Plus for ten dollars per month. It has no ads, includes 4K, and allows six simultaneous streams.
If you want the largest ad free library, get Netflix Premium for twenty three dollars per month. It is expensive but you get everything Netflix has to offer in 4K with no commercials.
If you want the best value for movies, get Max Ad Free for sixteen dollars per month. Just know that 4K costs extra on the Ultimate plan for twenty dollars.
Do not get Hulu No Ads unless you hate yourself. It costs eighteen dollars per month and still has ads on a handful of shows. That is unacceptable.
Apple TV Plus – The Best Value Ad Free Service
Apple TV Plus costs ten dollars per month. That is the cheapest ad free service that actually gives you 4K and HDR.
Here is what you get for ten dollars. Every Apple original in 4K with Dolby Vision and Atmos. No commercials. Six simultaneous streams. Offline downloads on unlimited devices. And the video quality is better than Netflix or Max. Apple streams at higher bitrates, which means less compression artifacts in dark scenes.
The catch is the library size. Apple releases about two to three new shows or movies per month. That is much less than Netflix or Max. If you have already watched Ted Lasso, Severance, Slow Horses, and Killers of the Flower Moon, you might run out of things to watch.
But for ten dollars, Apple TV Plus is the best deal in ad free streaming. You just have to be okay with a smaller library.
Netflix Premium – The Largest Ad Free Library
Netflix Premium costs twenty three dollars per month. That is expensive. But it is also the only way to get everything Netflix offers without commercials and in 4K.
The Premium plan gives you 4K HDR on all Netflix originals. It allows four simultaneous streams. You can download content on up to six devices. And you get access to the entire Netflix library, including licensed movies that are missing from the cheaper ad supported tier.
The problem is the price. Twenty three dollars per month is two hundred and seventy six dollars per year. That is more than a Disney Bundle and a Max subscription combined.
But if you watch more than thirty hours of Netflix per month, the math works out to less than one dollar per hour of entertainment. That is cheap compared to going to the movies or buying Blu rays.
Netflix Premium is worth it for heavy users. For casual watchers, the ad tier at seven dollars makes more sense.

Max Ad Free – Best for Movies, But 4K Costs Extra
Max Ad Free costs sixteen dollars per month. That gives you the entire Max library with no commercials. But there is a catch. 4K is not included.
If you want 4K on Max, you need the Ultimate plan for twenty dollars per month. That is four dollars extra for the same content in higher resolution. That feels like a ripoff, especially compared to Apple TV Plus which gives you 4K for ten dollars.
But even at sixteen dollars for 1080p, Max Ad Free is a good deal for movie lovers. You get new Warner Bros releases the same day they hit theaters. You get the entire HBO library. You get the Criterion Collection. And you get no commercials interrupting your films.
If you have a 4K television, pay the extra four dollars for Ultimate. If you are watching on a laptop or tablet, save the money and stick with Ad Free.
Disney Plus Premium – Great for Families, Okay for Everyone Else
Disney Plus Premium costs fourteen dollars per month. It includes 4K HDR, no ads, and offline downloads on up to ten devices.
The content is the same as the cheaper ad supported tier. Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney animation, National Geographic. If you love those things, the Premium plan is worth it because ads would ruin the emotional moments in Pixar movies.
If you do not care about Marvel or Star Wars, Disney Plus is not for you regardless of the price. The adult oriented content is almost nonexistent.
The best way to buy Disney Plus Premium is through the Disney Bundle. For fifteen dollars per month, you get Disney Plus Premium, Hulu With Ads, and ESPN Plus. That is a better deal than buying Disney Plus alone.

Hulu No Ads – The Worst Value in Streaming
I am going to be direct. Hulu No Ads is a scam.
It costs eighteen dollars per month. That is more than Max Ad Free and Disney Plus Premium. And despite the name, Hulu No Ads still has commercials on a handful of shows. Grey Anatomy. How to Get Away with Murder. A few other ABC shows. Hulu claims these shows have streaming rights that require ads, but that is not my problem. If I pay for no ads, I expect no ads.
The video quality is also terrible. Hulu does not support 4K on almost any content. You are paying eighteen dollars per month for 1080p with occasional commercials. That is unacceptable.
If you want Hulu for the TV shows, get the ad supported plan for eight dollars per month. The ads are annoying but not eighteen dollars annoying. If you want ad free, switch to a different service.

Is Ad Free Worth It?
Here is how I think about it.
If you watch less than ten hours of streaming per month, get the ad supported tier. The commercials will not kill you and you will save money.
If you watch more than twenty hours per month, get ad free. At that volume, the time you save skipping commercials is worth the extra cost.
Calculate it this way. The average ad supported tier has five minutes of ads per hour. If you watch twenty hours per month, that is one hundred minutes of commercials. One hundred minutes is one hour and forty minutes of your life wasted every month. Is that worth the ten to fifteen dollars you save? For me, no. For you, maybe.
My personal stack is Apple TV Plus for ten dollars and Max Ultimate for twenty dollars. That is thirty dollars per month for two services with no ads and 4K. I rotate in Netflix Premium for one month when a new season drops, then cancel. That strategy works well.
