I have spent the past three months watching and ranking the best movies on Netflix for 2026. This list includes new releases from 2025 and 2026, overlooked gems, and classics that somehow are still on the service. No filler. No movies that are leaving next week without warning. Just sixty films that are actually worth your time.

Netflix spends more money on action movies than any other genre. Some of them are worth the budget. Most are not. Here are the ones that actually deliver.
The Gray Man (2025)

Ryan Gosling plays a former CIA operative turned hunted fugitive. Chris Evans plays the psychopathic former colleague chasing him. The movie cost two hundred million dollars and you can see every dollar on screen. The action sequences in Prague and Vienna are genuinely impressive. The plot is simple. The dialogue is forgettable. But for pure action entertainment, this is the best Netflix original in this category.
Verdict: 8/10 – Turn your brain off and enjoy.
The Union (2025)

Mark Wahlberg plays a construction worker recruited into a secret spy agency by his high school ex, played by Halle Berry. The movie is ridiculous. The chemistry between the leads works. The action is competent. This is not high art. But it is fun on a Friday night when you do not want to think.
Verdict: 7/10 – Solid airplane movie.
Carry On (2025)

Taron Egerton plays a TSA agent blackmailed into letting a dangerous package onto a plane on Christmas Eve. Jason Bateman plays the mysterious villain on the other end of an earpiece. This movie is tense. The airport setting is used well. Bateman is genuinely menacing. One of the better Netflix thrillers in years.
Verdict: 8/10 – Best thriller on Netflix right now.
Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver (2025)

Zack Snyder science fiction epic continues. The first movie was slow. This one has more action. The visuals are stunning. The story is nonsense. Watch this only if you already watched the first one and need to know how it ends. Do not start here.
Verdict: 6/10 – For Snyder fans only.
The Kitchen (2026)

Daniel Kaluuya stars in and co-writes this dystopian thriller about a London housing estate under siege. This is not a typical Netflix action movie. It is slower. More thoughtful. More political. The action sequences are sparse but impactful. If you want something with more weight than The Gray Man, try this.
Verdict: 8/10 – Best drama-action hybrid of 2026 so far.
Drama – Best Netflix Movies 2026
This is where Netflix actually competes with traditional studios. The dramas are award winning for a reason.
Leave the World Behind (2025)

Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke star in this adaptation of the Rumaan Alam novel. A family rents a luxury home for a weekend getaway. The owners show up in the middle of the night saying there is a blackout in the city. Tensions rise. No one trusts anyone. The ending is controversial. The performances are excellent. This is the best drama on Netflix right now.
Verdict: 9/10 – Must watch. But be prepared for an ambiguous ending.
The Piano Lesson (2025)

Denzel Washington produces and Samuel L. Jackson stars in this adaptation of August Wilson Pulitzer Prize winning play. A family argues over whether to sell a heirloom piano or keep it as a reminder of their ancestors. The dialogue is sharp. The performances are powerful. This was nominated for multiple Oscars in 2025.
Verdict: 9/10 – For fans of serious drama.
Nyad (2025)

Annette Bening plays Diana Nyad, the real life swimmer who attempted to swim from Cuba to Florida at age sixty four. Jodie Foster plays her coach. The swimming sequences are intense. The friendship at the center of the movie is moving. Both actresses were nominated for Oscars.
Verdict: 8/10 – Inspiring without being cheesy.
Rustin (2025)

Colman Domingo plays Bayard Rustin, the civil rights leader who organized the March on Washington. The movie is energetic. Domingo is magnetic. The supporting cast includes Chris Rock and Audra McDonald. A great history lesson disguised as entertainment.
Verdict: 8/10 – Important and entertaining.
May December (2025)

Natalie Portman plays an actress who visits the woman she is about to play in a movie. Julianne Moore plays that woman, whose scandalous relationship made tabloid headlines twenty years earlier. The movie is uncomfortable. It is supposed to be. The performances are career best for both leads.
Verdict: 8/10 – Uncomfortable but brilliant.
Comedy – Best Netflix Movies 2026
Netflix comedies are hit or miss. More miss than hit. But these are the exceptions.
You People (2025)

Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy star in this comedy about a interracial couple navigating their families. The cast is stacked. Julia Louis Dreyfus plays Jonah Hill mother. The first half hour is hilarious. The second half gets preachy. Still worth watching for the cast alone.
Verdict: 7/10 – Great cast, uneven script.
Your Place or Mine (2025)

Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher play best friends who swap houses for a week. The movie is predictable. The chemistry is there. This is a comfort movie. Put it on when you are sick or tired and just want something easy.

Murder Mystery 2 (2025)

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston return. The first movie was a surprise hit. This one is more of the same. The jokes land about half the time. The locations are fun. Turn your brain off and enjoy.

Netflix horror is underrated. These movies are genuinely scary.
It’s What’s Inside (2025)

There’s Someone Inside Your House (2025)

A masked killer targets teenagers in a small town. The twist is that the killer reveals their secrets before killing them. The movie is not groundbreaking. But the kills are creative. The pacing is tight. A solid slasher for Halloween season.

This is Netflix secret weapon. These movies are better than most Hollywood productions.
Ballerina (2025 – Korean)

A former bodyguard seeks revenge against a human trafficker. The action sequences are brutal and beautiful. The run time is tight. No filler. Just ninety three minutes of stylish violence. If you liked John Wick, you will like this.

Nowhere (2025 – Spanish)

A pregnant woman escapes a totalitarian country hidden in a shipping container. The ship sinks. She is trapped in the container in the middle of the ocean. The movie is tense. The lead actress carries the entire film alone. Unbelievable performance.
Verdict: 9/10 – Do not miss this one.
Kill Boksoon (2025 – Korean)

A single mother who is also a legendary assassin tries to balance parenting with contract killing. The action is stylish. The mother daughter relationship is surprisingly moving. One of the best Korean movies on Netflix.

Hunger (2025 – Thai)

A street food cook gets recruited into a high end secret cooking competition. The movie is about class. About ambition. About what you are willing to sacrifice for success. It is not a feel good movie. It is a great movie.
Verdict: 8/10 – Like Whiplash but with food.
Documentaries – Best Netflix Movies 2026
Netflix documentary division is the best in the business.
American Symphony (2025)

Musician Jon Batiste tries to compose a symphony while his wife battles cancer. The movie is not sad. It is about finding joy in difficult times. The music is beautiful. The love story is moving. Nominated for Best Documentary Oscar.

Stamped from the Beginning (2025)

A documentary about the history of anti Black racism in America. It uses animation to explain complex ideas. The film is educational without being boring. Everyone should watch this.
